Carl knows true love does not always come in small packages.  He also knows he must help Ella overcome her fear of another broken heart before he can partake of that bliss.

"You're losing weight,"  Carl says as Ella gets into the car.
"I want to be beautiful for you"
"You are."
"I don't feel beautiful."
"I see," Carl says as he pulls from the curb.  ". . . And of course, it would make no difference if I said you're beautiful and I love you, rolls and all."
